Discuss the View that Art can Convey Truth by Representing reality.
(complete up to and including no.4 by Wednesday 2nd February) Make sure this is done. No more Mr Nice-guy!! :[
- What is representation?
- How might this convey truth,
- insight or a deeper understanding?
- What did Plato think? (Uses idea of representation as false in his ‘cave allegory’)
- Was Aristotle correct to think that art could convey ‘universal truth’ or is art always culturally specific? Can art transcend time and place?
- Discuss two particular examples (a ‘high art’ one and an Eastenders type one) How might people 'relate to' them - how might they convey truths be they universal a very personal and specific?
- Discuss the problems with the view that art has value through its representational qualities. (see AQA pp 102-104 but don't just copy out bits you don't understand - make an effort and get your head round it!) Also see your or my notes - mine are below. If you click it it gets big enough to read.
